Independence Day is a fun and exciting time for adults and kids alike. There are many ways to celebrate the 4th, and all that comes with it. Here at SportsTyme, we enjoy spending the day with family and friends, giving thanks for the freedoms that we have and the men and women who fought to give us those freedoms.

Hosting a backyard cookout, potluck, and/or pool party is a great way to celebrate with friends and family. Although the 4th is right around the corner, there’s still time to plan your get-together! Here are some ideas for activities for the whole family.

Red, white, and blue tag. Every person in the game starts with a red, white, or blue token. A game of normal tag ensues, but each time a person is tagged he or she must hand over the chip to the person who tagged. The game ends when someone person collects one red, one white, and one blue token.

Sidewalk chalk. Fun for all ages! The theme is anything relating to the U.S. A. Section off areas of the sidewalk for each age group and judge at a specified time. Winners may get extra poppers or sparklers.

Wand of Independence. Not as intimidating as sparklers and just as fun. All you need is a 3-inch foam star, wooden dowel, red, white, and blue ribbons, scissors, glue, and red, white and blue craft paint. Setup newspaper and let kids paint their stars and dowels. When dry, attach the star to the dowel and tie on the ribbons.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July from all of us here at SportsTyme in Central Florida.
