Fourth of July is right around the corner, and that means lots of food, fun, and fireworks. If you don’t feel like braving the crowds to see fireworks, here are some ideas of how to celebrate the Fourth of July in your own home or with friends.

Make it Red, White, and Blue

Nothing says the Fourth of July like the colors red, white, and blue. So why not have some fun with it and get the family involved in crafts and games around the color theme? Parents.com offers 30 different activities that you can do with your kids to celebrate the holiday. Some highlights include red, white, and blue strawberries and a mini marching drum. And since July may not be the most fun time to be outdoors because of the heat – the best part is most of these activities can be done indoors so you can stay cool!

Making some history

It’s easy to forget that between all the festivities, the 4th of July holiday is really about American Independence. In between all the fun, take some time to focus on how our great country got started. For instance, did you know you can download copies of our nation’s most important documents like the Declaration of Independence? You can talk about what it means and even get your whole family to sign it!

Fireworks

It’s much safer to go see fireworks out and about than try to light them at home. However, if your kids want to have some fun but you want to keep them safe, why not make firework confetti balloons? They’ll get the fun of seeing a spectacle, but it won’t put them in danger (and it will save money too!)
